“If you cannot find the truth right where you are, where else do you expect to find it?”
The true nature of the universe is all around us. Traveling to foreign lands is great, and some say it will expand your mind. However, so will staying where you are and opening your thoughts and observations to new perspectives. Too often people feel they need to go somewhere foreign, ingest something foreign, or talk to someone foreign to gain a different perspective.
We can all try simple exercises right where we are. If you spend time with children, notice how they see everything in the world for the first time. They ask “why this” and “why that”, sometimes we even get annoyed. But our wonderment of the world ceased the day we stopped asking “why”. There is no right answer, that is another part of the equation we often get wrong. We cannot ask “why” then think we already know the absolute right answer.
When we are too attached to our beliefs, to our opinions, and to our answers, we stop enjoying life and we stop appreciating the limitless possibilities. We no longer listen or even consider different perspectives, and we are less able to have compassion for others as we are unable to see the world from their eyes, or to walk a mile in their shoes.
The truth of the universe is right in front of us, right where we are, and we shouldn’t expect to find it anywhere else.
