“If you look to others for fulfillment, you will never be truly fulfilled.”
While most of us love at least one other person in our lives, we should not look to them for fulfillment. This doesn’t mean we will be happier without them, it just means we need to find fulfillment within ourselves instead of without.
Our relationships will also be more successful if we stop looking for reciprocal love and gratitude when being generous with our feelings. This statement must be taken under careful consideration and not misunderstood. This does not mean we should waste our time loving someone that does not love us back. This will only cause more pain for both parties.
What it does mean is that when people love each other, they should use kind words and kind actions towards others to please themselves. This is more rewarding then saying or doing kind things only to expect something in return.
This quote also reminds us not to look to others or follow them blindly, expecting fulfillment, enlightenment, or anything else. We need to seek our own truth, and live our own lives. It is when living our own lives and not seeking anything that we become enlightened.
