“One beam alone… No matter how stout… Cannot support a house.”
This quote, like all of them, is open to interpretation. Typically it is interpreted the same as “it takes a village to raise a child” or something like that. It means we should lean on our friends and families, and the people around us, to help us along the ride of life. This does not mean to become a burden to them. It works both ways, they should not be the single, stout support either. You must be a equal load-bearing support.
This also refers to a person’s skillset, mental and physical. It is great to become an expert at something, but even our expertise in one very specific area can benefit from working or thinking in different areas. It has been proven to expand our creativity and give the brain a break, and a workout of a different nature.
It is when we work with vinegar that our work with honey improves. We can gain great insight by thinking outside of the box, and by doing something completely different. To improve your martial skill, plant and care for flowers; to improve your spirituality, learn martial skills.
