“One who is too insistent on his own views, finds few to agree with him.”
I often say that although it is okay to have opinions, it is advisable to not be too attached to them. I have found people that have said that everyone MUST have strong opinions and a firm stance on all matters, political or otherwise. They thought I was an imbicile for not subscribing to this mindframe. This person, however, was the angriest, most hateful, unnappreciative, self-centered, and demanding person I have ever met in my life to this day.
This person swore profusely at everyone around her, including the nice, older, female assistant. I was nearly offended as a third party observer, and it’s not easy to offend me. Anyhow, this angry woman was, in my opinion, too attached to her opinions, which caused her suffering and the suffering of those around her.
No matter how right we like to think we are, we often don’t know the entire story, nor do we always try to see from another’s perspective, with true compassion. That is why we cannot ever be too attached to our opinions. When we are too attached, we are too insistent on our views, and most people will not agree with us, and we will resent them for it.
Let us detach ourselves and be willing to accept that we may not know everything. Let us think this way about everything. Everything.
