“Water birds going and coming their traces disappear but they never forget their path.”
Birds will migrate, heading back and forth along the same paths each season. Their path cannot be seen, it is not traced, nor do the imprints of their visit last as a trace of where they have been. These things are not permanent. They do not forget as they are the path. They do not plan out their journey online with mapping software, trying to calculate what will happen next. We often do, are we doing it wrong?
There are often questions as to how we can live a normal life with a normal job and family while taking leaps of faith and living in the now without planning. A lot of this seems like foolishness and a waste of time. There is nothing we should do differently except to be mindful of our focus, our perceptions, and learn to detach ourselves from our desires and expectations. This is different than not having any.
We must plan our schedules and have task lists and such, the difference is to be completely focused on our plan when we write it. The hard part is to not have attachments or expectations of the schedule and its results. We can hope, dream, and be positive, mind is more powerful than matter. We should avoid being so attached to results that we cannot adapt to the unexpected.
We can be like the birds, no trace of us left or to follow, but we never forget our paths. It is also symbolic of remembering our past without being overly attached to it.
